Observing & imitating Jesus

You and your cohort will continue following Jesus, as he completes a series of 10 miracles, prior to sending out the Twelve to proclaim good news of the Kingdom of God.

You will observe how Jesus calls disciples, tells parables, heals the sick, raises the dead, responds to those who are hostile to him and releases his disciples in the same ministry. You will have the opportunity to be shaped by Jesus’ humble approach to sharing the good news and his devotion to his father, as you spend weeks meditatively pouring over the words and deeds of the Lord, in the original Greek.

Your understanding of Greek will grow significantly, as you discuss these stories with others, learning to retell them and explain them in your own words.

Pre-requisite

You have completed our MATTHEW 8 course (or its equivalent – meaning, you control an active vocabulary of approx. 1000 words).

Content

The active knowledge of Koine Greek you have will grow to include vocabulary and phrases about forgiveness, fear/courage, illness/healing, family, compassion/mercy, clothing, fasting and prayer.

Your familiarity with the stories in the Gospels will steadily grow and solidify. You will begin to develop a feel for how stories in the Gospels work together in succession, reading in Greek.

You will understand stories narrated in both present and past tenses.

By the course’s end, you will be able to:

  • give correct answers to comprehension questions for each story in Matthew 9

  • pose comprehension questions to others

  • retell each story in the present tense (with access to the biblical text)

  • retell three of the stories in your own words (without access to the biblical text)

  • write a summary of each story in your own words

  • describe who Jesus is

  • recite one story from memory

  • use portions of the Scriptures in prayer to God
