Jordash Kiffiak is a super engaging teacher, who always found a way to make learning ancient Greek super exciting. With this interactive course, the Bible came alive and I was amazed at how quickly it was possible to catch on to such a complex language.

Through action figurines and toy animals, we learned and acted out stories of Jesus from the Gospels in Greek. By the end of the course, everyone in the class was able to read direct scripture from the Greek Bible. It was an amazing opportunity, one I would recommend to anyone interested.

I loved this class, and the way it was taught made the language stick. Jordash, our teacher, was always super energetic and excited to experience this beautiful, rich language with us. His love for God’s Word was evident during every class. He did a great job of teaching with a communicative approach (Greek being taught in Greek). He was incredibly encouraging and uplifting.

Besides just being taught the language, (which is worth taking the class in and of itself,) this course was a lot of fun. I loved hearing/watching Bible stories acted out by Jordash, and the community I found in my fellow classmates doing Greek was beautiful. Also, reading a passage in Greek straight out of the Bible for the first time was exhilarating. There is something powerful about reading God’s Word in its original words, exactly as it had been written.

I highly recommend both this course and Jordash as a teacher. If you get the chance to take this course, do it.

…I thoroughly enjoyed my time learning Greek with Jordash. He was engaging, and because it was taught in a dynamic and conversational style, there were no boring moments of memorization, we were just internalizing the language subconsciously. I did not have any specific ideas of what I wanted to get out of the course, and I did not know where I would end up at the conclusion of the time together, but as the course wrapped up, I found that I could understand basic narratives in the New Testament...

In fact, as a result of what Jordash was teaching, I found a passion I had for learning Biblical languages. In Fall 2017, I began learning Biblical Hebrew through a friend at my school, as well as the Biblical Language Center, and 2 years later, I haven’t stopped or slowed.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in going the extra mile in their walk of faith with Jesus, because this will assuredly open your eyes to the world that Jesus lived in…

…Jordash is an exceptional language teacher, very engaging and demonstrative, and our cohort advanced quickly under his teaching / learning style... The course was super fun, and not at all intimidating. Jordash creates a very relaxed, happy learning environment, sets an uninhibited tone which helps facilitate learning...

Already, I have begun to recognize deeper nuance or wider meaning in Greek New Testament texts that might be lost in translations without footnotes / commentary. For example, ἀνάστηθι (anastethi), one of the first words we learned, has more meaning than just “stand up,” but is used also for “arise,” “wake up,” “resurrect” (from the dead). 

I highly recommend the course in general; and specifically, I have begun to explore how my school in Kenya might adapt this course into its language electives at the High School level.

…Jordash encouraged us and helped us discover the meaning behind Greek words and Bible stories. I think the coolest thing that I got out of this class was that in ordinary life I would come across a Greek word and recognize it. When my pastor was preaching she would reference a greek word's meaning and I would understand! If you are interested in learning Greek, the meaning behind the words in the Bible I would recommend taking this course, Jordash is a great teacher and you'll be surprised at how fast you pick up Greek. This class was taught differently from my Spanish class… we learned Greek through commands, acting, doing homework in Greek which helped you learn the Greek fast.

…I enjoyed Jordash as an instructor—he clearly not only knew Koine Greek, but knew the world of the New Testament forward and backwards, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand if I felt like I wasn’t entirely mastering the course materials… The course was a ton of fun; a sense of camaraderie formed among the students, and Jordash cared about our individual learning. I definitely now feel more in touch with the Bible, and understand a lot more of the tricks and language that the gospel writers use to portray Jesus. The interaction and intentionality of the pedagogy definitely made this course a unique experience among other ancient and modern language courses I have taken. I would recommend this course to anyone, student or teacher, who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the New Testament…
